Armistice Day Remembrance Service

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Pendoylan School observed the two minute silence during our Remembrance Service. We laid poppies at the altar and offered prayers of thanks to mark the occasion. God bless all who risk and lose their lives so that we might remain free.

Harvest Thanksgiving and Supporting Pontyclun Food Bank

Harvest is a very important time of the year for Pendoylan School and for the farming community we're a part of. Our children know that it is right to give thanks to God for providing us with what we need, and to the hard working people who produce our delicious food.

This year, to show our gratitude for being lucky enough to have plenty, we decided to collect food donations for the Pontyclun Food Bank to give out to struggling families locally. Mr Bob Kennedy visited our school shared worship to tell us all about the food bank's work and how we could help them.

Our wonderfully generous families responded by collecting a huge amount of food to donate, so we want to thank all of them for their contributions.

Pendoylan School Proudly Raises Money for Charity

Last week was a fantastic week of fundraising for good causes at Pendoylan School. First, we held a sponsored penalty shootout where every pupil had the chance to fire five fearsome shots past their teacher! The children loved competing with the staff and lots of money was raised for Childline.

Then on Friday, we participated in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Our generous pupils, parents and staff contributed their time and cakes and organised a wonderful morning full of sweet treats. The Pendoylan staff would like to thank everyone for their donations and purchases; you helped us raise a superb £550.29!

Pendoylan's Fashion Show a Success!

Pendoylan CIW Primary School Fashion Show in Association with John Lewis

The Copthorne Hotel’s Simon Read generously hosted a glamorous fund-raising evening of fashion and fun, organised by John Lewis with Pendoylan CIW Primary School. The glitzy fashion showcase was held on Thursday 8th May and thanks to the wonderful makeup artists and hair stylists, plus the fabulous clothes, the models were made to feel and look like movie stars.

Amanda Baker, a representative of the school’s Friends committee and chief organiser of the event said, “Sara-Jane Evans from John Lewis was amazing. She compered the evening and worked so hard with her colleague Julian Baker to arrange the event. They provided gorgeous outfits and Japonesque makeup for our pupil, parent and teacher models while Scarlet Knight very kindly donated their hair services. It was such a fun night and we managed to raise lots of money for the school. We can’t wait to do it again.”

Safeguarding Our School

Child Protection and Safeguarding

In response to an excellent question from a parent regarding our safeguarding procedures, I wanted it to be known that at Pendoylan there is a robust child protection policy which is reviewed annually. All policies are available from the school office and the recently updated versions are in the process of being uploaded to our website policy page. The staff have all been trained in safeguarding and child protection procedures and are kept informed of any alterations and updates to these procedures.

In brief:
* Safeguarding means protecting children from maltreatment
* Preventing impairment of children's health or development

It also includes:
* Pupil health and safety
* Anti-bullying and cyber bullying procedures
* Meeting the needs of pupils with medical conditions
* Providing First Aid
* Educational visits
* Intimate care
* Internet safety
* School security

I am the designated Safeguarding/Child Protection Officer for the school as well as the designated member of staff for 'Looked After Children' (LAC) so any further requests and questions should be directed to me, and I shall be happy to advise or assist you.

Thank you and regards,

Mrs Lyn Murray
(Head)

Heave Ho for Sport Relief!

As part of our fundraising efforts for Sport Relief 2014, the staff took on the might of our pupils in a 'Tug of War'! Every class was given the opportunity to defeat the teachers and plenty proved too strong for the staff. It was a wonderfully fun afternoon, a fantastic cause and we're grateful for all your generous donations.

Junior Christmas Show

Here's a selection of photos from our recent Junior Christmas 'extravaganza'. The Class 6 cast performed wonderfully and they were superbly supported by a very enthusiastic junior chorus. We're glad we could share it with you and we're so proud of our fantastic actors and actresses.
