We were thrilled to welcome the illustrious sports journalist Mr. Peter Jackson and Wales' only track and field Olympic gold medallist, Mr. Lynn Davies, to our school on Monday 18th June.
Mr. Davies spoke inspirationally to the children about his wonderful achievements and showed off his stunning gold medal and London 2012 torch. Between them, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Davies regaled the enthralled assembly with training advice and anecdotes from Mr. Davies' career, including the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games where he won gold at the age of 21 with a long jump distance of 8.07m. We measured and marked out the distance in the hall and seeing it is believing it. The distance is astonishing!
Diolch yn fawr Mr. Jackson and Mr. Davies. You opened our Olympic Fortnight fantastically.

Our Very Special Guest Olympian Lynn Davies Strikes Gold!
At the 1966 Commonwealth Games, Welshman Lynn Davies won gold in the long jump to add to his wonderful achievement of winning gold at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Unfortunately we've been unable to secure footage of the Olympic final but here he is in action just 2 years later. The other athlete in the video is Mary Rand; she won gold for England that year too so Great Britain had two world class long jumpers in the 60s.
Lynn Davies has very kindly agreed to visit our school on Monday 18th June to talk to us about his achievements.
